Teltronic, a Spanish company with over 50 years’ experience in the critical communications sector, has been responsible for deploying the TETRA communications system serving the new Suburban Train – AIFA, which connects the Mexican capital with Felipe Ángeles International Airport and began operating on 27 April.

The new line forms a branch of the Buenavista–Cuautitlán line, which already had a communications network provided by the company. Teltronic has therefore had to install the necessary base stations to provide TETRA coverage along the 28 kilometres of the new section between Lechería station and AIFA, and to ensure train-to-ground communications throughout the entire route.

Furthermore, Teltronic has fitted the 10 trains entering service on the line with its RTP-800 on-board radio and has supplied the portable and fixed radios used by supervisory and safety staff, amongst others.

“Teltronic has been serving this line for years and it is particularly important for us to continue supporting the operation as it expands to AIFA, as this reinforces the customer’s confidence in our technology and in the local team. Mexico is a country of paramount importance to us and we will continue to work to consolidate our presence and keep adding value to critical transport infrastructure,” explains Felipe Sanjuán, Director of Transport Business Development.

NEW LINE TO AIFA

The Buenavista–AIFA Train forms part of the Felipe Ángeles Mexico City–Pachuca railway project and connects the Mexican capital with Felipe Ángeles International Airport. The new service was launched on 26 April with the opening of the Lechería–AIFA section, designed to facilitate access to the airport terminal and improve mobility in the Valley of Mexico.

This route features eight stations spread across 28 kilometres of track, passing through the municipalities of Tultitlán, Tultepec, Nextlalpan and Zumpango. It is estimated that the line will benefit some 80,000 people daily, reducing journey times and offering a comfortable and sustainable alternative for travelling to the airport from the city centre.

Given the strategic importance of this line, which is set to be extended to the state of Hidalgo via Pachuca, the Mexican Government has taken over the operation of the rail network.
