EDESUR, improved service thanks to SDM

Edesur is a private electricity distribution company in Argentina, a subsidiary of the Enel group, which operates in the southern area of the Federal Capital and in twelve municipalities in the province of Buenos Aires. It has a concession of 3,304 km2, more than 32,500 km of power lines and serves 6.1 million inhabitants, distributing 20% of the country’s electricity.

The company needed to renew an analogue radio system due to obsolescence, and in the search for the most suitable technology for its replacement, it opted for TETRA, which met its voice and data needs through a single system, also considering that the number of radio channels was limited.

Edesur wanted to continue offering its customers the best service and, in this sense, its main objectives was improve control over the distribution network and reduce CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index).

CAIDI is a parameter of great relevance in the world of energy production and distribution. This rate shows the time that companies do not provide service, being a very valuable data because the lower it is, the lower the compensation they will have to face, the higher the subsidies they can receive, and the better the perception of their users will be.

Teltronic’s TETRA and the Synchronous Data Manager SDM become a valuable asset as shown in the case of EDESUR, in which, thanks to the radio system the company is able to detect any event on the distribution network in real time and, consequently, to improve its operation.
